What is a metal sign?

Our sign is not actually metal, in fact it is really made out of aluminium composite material (ACM). We have named it a metal sign as many people confuse aluminium composite signs with metal signs. A ACP is made up of a thermoplastic core and low density polyethylene bonded together against two thin sheets of aluminium

Here are the 3 reasons we use aluminium composite signs over metal signs:

Lightweight Aluminium composite signs are lighter than metal signs. Due to the way ACP is manufactured, the aluminium sign is not heavy for its size.
In fact a 1.2 x 2.4m ACM sign is roughly 11-12 kg. This makes installing, carrying, and delivering the printed signs a lot easier than a metal sign.

Cost Effective - Custom ACP signs are more affordable than outdoor metal signs. The reason being it is aluminium composite not aluminium.

Durable - Durability is important because this is a long term sign.
Unlike metal signs, aluminium composite signs do not rust.

Do I need to order a laminate for the vinyl & what are your lamination options?

Nowadays, it is very unlikely that a printer doesn’t laminate their vinyl after printing. But it’s better to know before than after. Lamination is crucial, not just because it can give you an extra year of durability. But if you ever need to clean your sign, you can do so with non harsh chemicals like soap or isopropyl alcohol without damaging the sign.

Without the lamination you run a big risk of damaging the sign when giving it a basic clean.

We have 3 lamination options available and they all have a different purpose.
The laminate you choose should be dependent on the environment of the sign and where your metal sign will be displayed.

Read the following carefully and choose the most suited laminate for your custom printed sign.

Gloss - Gloss laminate has the highest level of durability amongst all laminates. The other benefit is it is the cheapest laminate and is the easiest to clean.
Matte - Matte laminate is more suited for buildings and warehouses, it has a professional look and is a great option to reduce the sun's glare, as the matte laminate absorbs light.
Anti Graffiti - Anti graffiti is the most costly form of laminate, but comes with added protection against graffiti or vandalism. It’s main purpose is to be able to withstand the harsh chemicals used to clean the graffiti.

How much does an aluminium composite sign weigh?
A printed aluminium composite sign's weight can vary depending on the thickness of the aluminium skin and the size of the sign. This can be critical when deciding how many people will be required to install the sign.

The weight per square metre is roughly 3.85kg for a 3mm acp panel.
2.4m x 1.2m = 11.09kg + vinyl & laminate
1.8m x 1.2m = 8.32kg + vinyl & laminate
1.2m x 0.9m = 4.16kg + vinyl & laminate
0.9m x 0.6m = 2.08kg + vinyl & laminate

If you are looking to find out the weight of a custom size aluminium composite sign, simply use this formula:
(L x W) x 3.85 = Weight

Example
0.9m (L) x 0.9m (W) = 0.81m2 (Square metre)
0.81m2 (Square metre) x 3.85kg (Weight per square metre) = 3.12kg (Total weight)
Answer = 3.12kg

DIY Installation
Installing a sign yourself can be tricky and sometimes seem like a daunting task, but the key for success is all in the preparation.

Remember some installs are harder than others, so it all depends on your skill level and experience

Installation difficulty will depend on the location, environment and position of the install.
